In 1934, the Illinois Central Railroad contracted with the Pullman Car & Manufacturing Corp. to build the railroad’s first streamline train. Christened the Green Diamond, it cost $425,000 to build and was delivered to the railroad on March 27, 1936. The Green Diamond was a five car, articulated trainset consisting of a locomotive, a mail & baggage car, two passenger coaches, and a lounge car. The 1,200 h.p. Diesel-electric power-car featured a large, bulbous grilled nose and crew cab located on top in a turret-like fashion. On May 17, 1936, the streamliner took off for St. Louis, Missouri, a 294-mile, 5-hour trip it ran for 11 years. In 1947, the Green Diamond was renamed the “Miss Lou” and served a route between New Orleans, Louisiana and Jackson, Mississippi. It was scrapped in 1950. The Coach Yard is offering the Green Diamond, FACTORY pro-finished: lettered and painted per prototype in HO scale.

IC 121 The Power Car was a (Winton-201A, 1,200 hp, 16-cylinder Diesel Engine. The auxiliary generator and heating boiler controls were here. The first truck was powered. The second truck, articulated with the second car, was not powered.

IC 122 Baggage, Storage, and U.S. Mail Car. The Mail Compartment occupied near one-half of the coach. Registered Nurse/Passenger Assistant onboard each trip.

IC 123 56 Reclining Seats in Coach. The Conductor’s Office, and Restrooms.

IC 124 60 Reclining Seats in Coach.

IC 125 The Dining and Lounge Observation Car, aka, "The Parlor Car". There were 8 seats available in the dining room, 20 more in the lounge, plus standing room. The Kitchen was in the forward portion of this car with table service at the rear of the lounge.
